Most boats carry two kinds of battery for two different jobs: a starting battery for the outboard and a deep-cycle battery for everything else. The Lithium Rhino LR12V120AH-M is a dual purpose lithium marine battery built to handle both from one case. It's rated for 1,200 cold cranking amps to turn the motor over and holds 120 amp-hours to run the trolling motor, fish finder, and livewell pump once you're on the water.
A Lithium Marine Starting Battery That Also Runs the House
This is the one battery in the Rhino marine line that cranks an engine. The 24V and 36V Rhino packs are deep cycle only. They'll run a trolling motor all day, but they aren't built for the short, heavy draw an outboard starter asks for. The 12V Dual Cranking model is. Lithium iron phosphate holds its voltage close to full until the pack is nearly spent, so a long morning on the electronics doesn't leave you with a sluggish start at noon.
Then there's the weight. Lithium Rhino ships it at about 30 lb, for 1,536 watt-hours of stored energy plus the cranking rating. If you've lifted a lead-acid starting battery off the deck of a center console, you know that number is a relief.
On the lake, that works out simply. A small aluminum boat with a 12V trolling motor out of Madison or Perry can run one battery for the kicker or outboard and the bow mount together. A bigger boat can use it as the cranking battery and a 12V house battery for the electronics. The dual-layer ABS shell is sealed to IP67, and an LCD on the battery itself shows its charge where you can see it.
Plan your wiring before you order. Lithium Rhino doesn't support series connection on its marine batteries, so two of these can't be joined to power a 24V or 36V trolling motor. For that, the single-case 24V or 36V Rhino is the right battery. Give us a call with your engine and your battery setup, and we'll check it with you first.
What's in the Box
This is the battery only. Unlike the 24V and 36V Rhino marine kits, it does not come with a charger, console gauge or mounting hardware.
- Lithium Rhino 12V 120Ah dual purpose IP67 LiFePO4 battery with on-shell LCD
- Bluetooth connection to the free Rhino app
You will need a 12V charger with a lithium (LiFePO4) profile; the lead-acid charger on the boat now won't do the job. Call us and we'll quote a matched 12V lithium charger, or a waterproof onboard model if you want to leave it wired in.
